It's probably the spring loaded gear selector fork under the shifter assy behind the rear head. it's VERY easy for one side of that spring mechanism to fall off when assembling. this way you don't get a full throw when putting it in gear with the hand shifter.The 400 is a great machine, the best in the 400 class, imo. 2002 698 Prairie. Rode it the first time for about 10 minutes and overheat light came on. Checked coolant resevoir and it was full, however the radiator took quite a bit of water. Rode for a little longer next time, and light comes on ... Find a multi-meter. Check to make sure that your battery has 12V~ at the terminals. The solenoid is located between the airbox and battery underneath the seat. It has two large wires (one coming directly from the battery) and two small wires connected to it.
